Microsoft recently released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The official release is expected somewhere by the end of the year.

Some of the improvements are things that may not seem like a big deal, but will almost certainly have a significant impact on the ease of using Windows for photogs. For starters, Windows 8 will automatically find the correct orientation of a photo based on EXIF data. When browsing through a massive folder of photos, that’s a huge help.
