Latin word "lacus" means "opening hole, pool, lake," and was also the word for a public water supply point of distribution in ancient Rome.
This is a list of Lakes (singular sea) from the Moon. This includes also lacus, palus and sinus. The modern system of nomenclature was introduced in 1651 by Riccioli. Riccioli's map of the Moon was made by Francesco Maria Grimaldi, who has a crater named after him.

GEOLOGIC ASTRONOMY IMAGES: Mountains of the Moon. List of lunar mountains. Description and location
The mountains of the Moon are mostly the result of impacts. This is especially evident if we look at the peaks that rises from the center of many craters.

ASTRONOMIC GEOLOGY: South craters of the Moon-Southern lunar Hemisphere features
Southern hemisphere of the Moon is inrough terrain, heavily crateredand with mountainous areas. At the poles, the sun is always at small angles, so this is creating a unique environment, but also some difficulties in interpreting the geological region. The southern hemisphere of the Moon craters are very different in size, appearance and how they were formed by impactsin the past.

There is great similarity between the surface of the planet Mercury and the Moon.In the inside the two bodies is other story.the first image is a picture of the Moon crater Schickard made through my 8 " Newtonian telescope, and the second one is a photo of craters on Mercury's surface,in wich the largest crater have striking resemblance to much of our Moon's crater Schickard.
Please share this to know if everyone thinks the same or if anyone has another opinion on this similarities.
